Objective:
build the longest structure that will extend horizontally from a fixed,
secured point and support an egg at its furthest Point.
Terms:
1.You will have 20 minutes to complete this problem. You may work anywhere
you wish. Time will be given at 10, 5 and 1 min. You may not use the
Bag, the number slip or this sheet.
2. The structure will be clamped to a 2x4 horizontal railing for judging.
The Extension must be able to hold the weight of a single egg for 10
seconds at its farthest point. It is up to the team to create an area
on the extension that will contain the egg.
3. The egg must be housed within the outermost 25% of the structure
(estimate! We will measure if necessary). The length of the structure
will be measured from its horizontal distance from the clamp, not on
the total length of the structure itself. The structure can be clamped
at any point that the team designates, but remember that you will be
judged by distance from the clamp itself.
4. At completion, the Structure will need to be moved to a Display
Table. Please apply the numbered post-it note to the structure. After
judging starts no modifications can be made.
Judging:
There is a slip of paper with a number on it in the packet. Teams will
present their extension in numeric order. One person from the team will
move their structure from the display table to the top of the stairs.
From the platform, a God will clamp the extension at the point designated
by the team. Then an egg must be placed by a team member on the extension.
The timer will begin when the team member releases the Egg. After ten
seconds if the Egg remains on the Structure the egg will be removed
and the extension will be measured for length. Structures that don’t
support the egg for ten seconds are disqualified. The team with the
longest structure that supports the egg wins.
