2006

OBJECTIVE:
Build an Egg-Mobile for the downhill egg-box derby

RULES:
1.You will have 25 minutes to complete this problem. You must work within eyesight of the judges. Time will be given at 10, 5 and 1 min. You may not use the packet itself, the enclosed number slip or this sheet.

2. Using any combination of the materials in this packet, and only materials in this packet, create a vehicle that will house and protect your egg and help it go the farthest distance down a pre-built course. Eggs will not be allowed down the course naked – BUILD SOMETHING!

3. Once time is called, the egg-car will need to be moved to a display table. Please apply the numbered post-it note to the structure at this time. Once time is called no modifications can be made to the Egg-Mobile.

4. Egg-Mobiles will be released from the top of a down hill course complete with obstacles. They cannot be touched after release. No stomping, blowing, fanning, tooting or sneezing in an attempt to alter the egg-cart’s path.

JUDGING:
There is a slip of paper with a number on it in the packet. Teams will present their Structures in numeric order. One person from the team will move their Egg-Mobile from the display table to the top of the derby course. It will then be placed against a starting gate that will be lifted by a judge, releasing the Egg-Mobile onto the course. You may place your Egg-Mobile anywhere along the starting gate. EACH TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TWO RUNS ON THE COURSE. Each run will be judged by the distance traveled on the course. Distance is determined when the Egg-Mobile stops moving or when it goes off the course. THE TEAM WHOSE EGG-MOBILE GOES FARTHEST WITHOUT BREAKING WINS. Each run will also be timed. IF MULTIPLE TEAMS HAVE EGG-MOBILE THAT FINISH THE COURSE, THE FASTEST COMPLETION TIME WILL WIN THE EVENT. If more that one Egg-Mobile makes it all the way through the course AND finishes in the exact same time, those teams will compete in a second, tie-breaking round.
