LAWN OLYMPICS 2005 - BREAKIN' A FEW EGGS! As sure as the skies will brighten and the snow will melt, Lawn Olympics will soon be upon us. Like Easter and Flag Day, the glorious event has become a holiday unto its own and who could go a year without it? Last year we put Riverside and all that it beheld to bed - this year Lawn Olympics shall rise again, but in new form and the gods are ecstatic! Inevitably, however, transition makes some folks uncomfortable, so before uncertainty sets in around you like a dank fog – where will it be held? what can we expect? will we recognize our blessed LO when we see it? allow me to put your mind at ease. Yes, the gods must exercise some creative muscles but we’re up to the challenge! LO’05 is one big Odyssey of the Mind puzzle for the gods! Items available to us: one tent, two giant dye, a couple of man-size playing cards, ten elastic bands, some packing peanuts, five smart cookies, and one hundred eagerly awaiting participants. The objective: use six years of experience to create an event exceeding all others, but doing so on a large sloping landscape without Lucas Tree 24 hour parking in the back. Quite honestly, the gods like to think we could hold the event in the Astrosphere at Fun Town and the spirit of LO would live on (at least until the 10th or 12th playing of ELO’s Fire on High) so although moving the event to a new location is without question, a tall order, we’re sure that with a little imagination, some fortitude and a lot of Yankee ingenuity, the gods will triumphantly reintroduce LO to its adoring fans on June 25 and it will be more celebrated than ever! Where? The place that Pam and Brett call home the other 364 days a year - 39 Broadturn Road in Scarborough, Maine. “What can we expect?” you ask? Simmer down!! Expect traditions. Everything you enjoy will be there! Competition. Camaraderie. Companionship. Food and Beverage. Friends and Family. But expect some new surprises. The gods have a blank canvas, with exciting new plans already in the works. The spirit of LO lives in its participants and in the smiling faces of all who attend, so although things may look different and you may have to carpool or park off-site and walk a bit – you can expect a fabulous day spent with people you’ve come to know over the years. Without further adieu, the gods of LO cordially ask you to set the date aside to attend the new and improved Lawn Olympics in 2005. More information will follow in the coming months and some of it will be important, so try to pay attention! And for Pete’s sake, stop worrying! See you on the 25th! |
