THE BIG SURPRISE FOR LO 2004

The Big Surprise… What is The Big Surprise? Usually The Lawn Olympics Committee likes to keep new details about the day “close to the vest”. But this year The Big Surprise is just too big to hold in.

As all Lawn Olympians can attest to, The Clans have become a popular part of the experience. For those new to LO, Clans are our version of teams. Although Lawn Olympics is a chance to get together with friends and family, the true purpose is pure competition. Like countries in the Goodwill Games, The Clans give an overwhelming sense of victory and defeat… The God of Sustenance would like to add that it’s also a good chance to meet new people.

Being a fairly new addition to Lawn Olympics, The Clans continue to evolve into a great part of the day. This evolution is when we come to the momentous news. “The Big Surprise” which will take the Clans to the next level this year: Tee shirts will be given out at the beginning of the day instead of at the awards ceremony. But that is not the only surprise. This year there will be 5 different colored tee shirts, one for each Clan.

Clan members can now spot other Clan members from across the Fields of Riverside. Lawn Olympians can see what Clans are fighting for the trophies in the finals. And most importantly, a sea of Clan Pride can sweep across the lawn like the tidal wave of spirit fingers!

The reason this news is breaking right before Lawn Olympics is to let people know about a couple of facts that will play out with this change.

  • Registration, which starts at 11:30 and ends at 12:30, will be crucial this year for those who want a t-shirt. There are a limited number of tee-shirts and they will run out. We have 20 shirts per Clan and they will be given to the first 100 people to register.
  • Those who take a t-shirt will be required to wear it at Lawn Olympics. We want to see that Clan Pride. There will be places to change.
  • No t-shirts can be held for people who come later. It is first come; first served, and they will go fast.
  • Those wishing to camp out and wait for registration to open may do so anytime after midnight on Thursday the 24th.

So there you have it. Lawn Olympics will have a different look this year. One that we feel will continue in the future. From this point forward The Clans will be an undisputable, unforgettable part of the Lawn Olympics experience.
