The 2002 Odyssey of the Mind Challenge

Take materials given and create an object that will travel the farthest distance in bounds.

Part 1 of the competition:
Teams of two will have 20 minutes to construct their flying object. (There will be a 5, 2 and 1 minute warning) All Items given do not have to be used in design. No extra or foreign materials may be used. Violators of this rule will be disqualified. The first team to finish will start the second part of the competition. At the final horn all teams must stop their construction efforts.

Part 2 of the competition:
Each team will bring their object to a square representing the "take off area. From one side of the square, white lines will be drawn in the shape of a cone to represent the in bounds area. (Similar to a javelin field) From the square the team will then release their object in whatever way they seem fit. Team members may not cross the foul line that starts the in bounds area.

After flight, the distance the object travels will be measured from the foul line to the farthest point away on the resting object. The Object must stop completely before a measurement is taken. Objects that stop out of bounds are considered disqualified. Objects that hit the ground out of bounds but stop in bounds are legal attempts. Objects that are touching the line in anyway are considered in bounds.

In event of a tie, judges will decide the winner on objects style points and aesthetics.
